Abstract | This report forecasts changes in the education system of the province of Ontario to assist educators responsible for managing changes in the next decade. The report is arranged in three sections, each accompanied by tables and figures. Section 1, "Quantitative Perspectives on the Future of Ontario School Boards through 1996," by Tom Atkinson and Helen Monk, details the analysis of quantitative trend data related to student enrollments, the supply of and demand for educational personnel, and education financing. Section 2, "Great Expectations/Great Disappointments: Expert Views of the Education System of Ontario: 1984-1996," by Susan Sussman, provides a synthesis of opinions by more than 50 leaders on changing demands on the education system and the system's most likely responses in the areas of role expectations and instructional content and organization. Section 3, "Some Implications of the Data on Futures of Education for Purposes to Be Served by Performance-Appraisal Systems through 1996," by Tom Atkinson and Susan Sussman, examines ways in which the changing educational context described in the first two sections may affect requirements for the development of mechanisms to appraise performance of certified education staff in Ontario schools.
